History of the War of Liberation: In 1971 Lalmonirhat was under Sector 6. Having arrived at Lalmonirhat Sadar and Aditmari' on 4 April the Pak army killed a number of people. On 8 April they entered into Hatibandha upazila and killed many people; they also set many houses of these upazilas on fire. During the war of liberation the Pak army killed many Bangali Railway officers and staff. On 30 November the Pak army left Hatibandha and took shelter in Kaliganj. The Pak army was forced to leave Lalmonirhat district on the face of the heavy attack by the freedom fighters on 4 and 5 December. Lalmonirhat was liberated on 6 December.

    1. On 1st of April 1971 My father as a Bengali Police Officer, Abdur Rahman Chowdhury was seriously injured while fighting with Pakistani forces in the Lalmonir Hat Air Field. He was transferred in the Lalmonirhat Railway Hospital along with OC of Lalmonirhat Thana. There were several other injured Bengali also in the same Hospital. Bengali EPR, Police, Ansar and Civilian block the East side of the Tista Bridge on the evening of 1st April 1971. They resist a Company of 32 Punjab Regiment for 3 days. Later under heavy attack by the Pakistani we lost Tista on the early morning of 4th April. On 4th of April 1971 morning Pakistan Military captured Lalmonirhat and killed him along with 27 other Bengali injured inside the Lalmonirhat Railway Hospital. On 13th April 1971, my elder brother Tohfael Ilahi Chowdhury, Cousin brother Abul Hasnath Chowdhury and myself along with another Bengali senior person named Luthfor Rahman a retired railway employee was captured by Pakistani. Only I survive! No Dead body was found. May Allah Bless them all—Ameen !
